We’ve awarded our first Growing Greatness honor to a very deserving teacher — Florence Middle School’s Jennifer Baker.

Jennifer has received a $500 check that she can use for her classroom as part of our new Growing Greatness Awards program, which recognizes outstanding teachers and staff members serving Nolina students. The award is presented twice a year, once in the fall and once in the spring, based on nominations submitted by the community.

David Alabed had many glowing remarks to say about Jennifer in his nomination, saying he has seen the impact the seventh-grade English teacher has had on his son.

“She truly cares about her students not just academically, but as individuals. It’s clear that teaching is more than a job for Jennifer—it’s a calling.”

David also praised Jennifer’s ability to inspire a love of reading in her classroom.

“She creates a classroom environment where kids feel supported, encouraged, and inspired to learn,” he wrote. “Her enthusiasm for literature is contagious, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure her students feel valued and capable.”

And although school is out for the summer, her students just might see her around the neighborhood—this dedicated, hard-working teacher is also a Nolina resident!

We're proud to recognize Jennifer's commitment to helping young people grow and succeed. Congratulations, Jennifer, and thank you for growing greatness every day!

Keep an eye out this fall when nominations open for the next Growing Greatness Award.
